Between May 27th and June 4th, 1940, a flotilla of seven hundred vessels of all shapes and sizes evacuated almost 350,000 Allied officers and men from the beaches of Dunkirk. For those who were not able to get away - or who were already prisoners of the Germans - a long and tedious captivity was just beginning.
