That night Danny had shaken her head multiple times and Rebecca saw her anger without even noticing how her shoulder shook slightly.
“I’m sorry. I overstepped,” Danny had said. “Will you be needing me at all?” Her hair was being twisted this way and that by the window Rebecca had propped open and all she could do was stare. She’d always admired Danny for making the effort to keep her hair so healthy, but she’d never seen what that looked like. Only a lock or two at a time would fall from those carefully made twists.
“Just to get ready for bed,” she said and her words had been soft and almost sugar-like. Her mouth had dried up, her composure gone before the smell of the sea jarred her and she came back into her head and adjusted her shoulders as she walked to her vanity, saying sharply: “Hair drill, Danny!”
Alternatively: Rebecca has a thing for Danny's hair and hands, and it may have gone under the radar for far too long.
