Thought I Wanted to Erase Your Every Move

Summary:

A poem about a lost woman who can't remember her own life

(Written for Whumptober 2025: Day 24 - Amnesia)

Notes:

CW: Canon-typical mind-break and amnesia

I'm gonna be honest with you all: I knew immediately upon seeing this prompt that I wanted to write from Lucy's POV. But doing so in prose felt very awkward. So I decided to try my hand at poetry, thinking that was the best way to get inside of her head.

Special shout-out to VeeChasity for giving me this idea! Poems about amnesiac people living on the streets my beloved

Work Text:

The barber's wife lives

But she doesn't know it

For years, all she knew was poison

All alone, she wandered London

Her memories fractured

Her life erased

Even from herself

She saw a man she thought she knew

But could never put a name to a face

She knows the name Johanna

But recalls no connection

Her mind is a series of scenes

With no connecting plot thread

The barber's wife lives

The barber's wife doesn't know who she is

City on Fire

Beadle?!

(Who is Beadle?)

She remembers a demoness

A woman with a cold heart

Who'd toss her aside to get what she wants

(Or, rather, who she wants)

She warned him

The familiar unfamiliar man

And that was the last warning

That left her lips

The Judge…I have no time

The barber's wife lived

But she didn't know it

And he didn't know it

Until it was too late
