Chapter 1: Can't help falling in love
Chapter Text
Jinafire and Skelita had been dating for a month. Everything was going wonderfully; most of their friends knew about their relationship and were head over heels in love.
It turned out that, after a few months of friendship, they had finally realized their feelings for each other. And it couldn't be better than that.
After the bell rang, during recess, they sat with several of their friends: Clawdeen, Catrine, Robecca, and Venus.
"Hey, ghouls!" said Clawdeen, visibly much calmer and happier since she started dating Toralei.
After talking for a while, Clawdeen and Jinafire began planning a new design while Catrine tried to visualize it and sketched it in her notebook. Robecca and Venus listened, though, of course, they were absorbed in their own little world of love. They hugged and glanced at each other constantly to make sure they were on the same page.
After gazing into each other's eyes for a moment, they couldn't resist and shared a soft, tender kiss on the lips. The other ghouls paused to watch. Then, they began to smile and laugh.
"You two can't go a single second without showing each other love," Clawdeen said, giggling.
Jinafire simply smiled, taking it all in, as she held the hand of the sweet ghoul beside her.
Skelita did too, but in reality... a whirlwind of thoughts swirled in her head. If she thought about it, almost all couples kissed. And if the beautiful Chinese dragon was already her girlfriend, that meant...
At some point, she would have to kiss her.
She began to blush slightly (yes, she had organs, but they were invisible, which is why her face flushed so easily) and, to hide it, she hugged Jinafire. The other girls practically melted with tenderness. She returned the hug immediately, clinging to her with all her might.
"Well, goodbye, ghoul friends, I have to go... to do something," Clawdeen said, blushing. And, of course, the others knew she was going to meet up with that orange-furred cat.
"Adiós, chica" the skeleton said, waving his hand.
A few minutes later, the robot and the plant also left because they had something important to do with Rochelle.
Only the three of them remained. Jinafire stared intently at her companion, Skelita didn't know what to do, and Catrine was engrossed in her drawing.
"So, when are you going to...?" she asked them without taking her eyes off her sketchbook.
"When what?" the dragon asked, confused.
"When are you two going to... kiss?" The question hung in the air. The French artist simply smiled.
"Well, I-I don't think it's really necessary," she replied nervously.
"Jin's right," she said, blushing again.
"Well, have a good day," she said, waving goodbye once recess was over. "Just... listen to what I'm saying."
...
In the workshop.
Skelita tried to even make a simple sketch, but it was impossible. She couldn't concentrate because she couldn't stop thinking about Jinafire.
Of course, she loved her very much, but she couldn't stop thinking about doing what her friend had suggested. The idea of kissing someone hadn't even crossed her mind.
Her thoughts were interrupted when someone hugged her from behind.
"Hi, my love," Jinafire whispered in her ear, stroking her hair.
"H-hi, darling," she stammered nervously. Her beautiful and charming girlfriend sat down beside her.
"Are you having trouble with your imagination?"
"I guess inspiration just slips away from me pretty quickly lately."
"Well, what are you thinking about right now?"
"I'm thinking about... you," she said with a knowing smile.
"And what do you like about what you're thinking about?" she smiled as she moved closer.
“The real question is, what don’t I like about you? You look like a queen,” she said, gazing into her eyes as the setting sun made her brown eyes sparkle. “You’re literally the only thing that comes to mind when I think of perfection.”
“Oh,” she said, covering her face as the heat intensified. “I didn’t think you thought something like that.”
“Of course I do.” she took her by the shoulders and stroked them several times.
Oh no! Her thoughts drifted back to the conversation they’d had with Catrine. Well, what was stopping her? She was her girlfriend now, and besides, she had a look of desire in her eyes.
Without realizing it, their noses were about to touch. That closeness intensified their desire. But there was a small detail. It was their first kiss. The very first.
“Would it be weird if I…?” she asked, but couldn’t finish the sentence.
Just as she was about to do them both that favor, the door opened with a soft noise and they immediately separated.
“Hey, friends, the sketch’s finished!” Clawdeen said, entering with a wide smile until she realized the atmosphere she’d interrupted. “Um… Am I interrupting something?” she asked with a mischievous grin, raising an eyebrow.
“No, not at all,” said the orange-haired girl, trying to act natural, but looking at the ground.
After chatting for a while about trivial things, they began working together on the dress. Since the design was quite complex, they might have to leave it unfinished for now and complete it another day.
“I suppose we should go now” Jinafire said after working on one part for about an hour. She placed her hand on the skeleton’s and stroked it.
“See you” Clawdeen said, leaving the workshop and leaving them alone. At first, that was what they had wanted, but now they were reconsidering.
The shorter girl couldn't meet her gaze, suddenly feeling shy. And, surprisingly, she felt the same way.
“I guess we should go now” the green-eyed girl stammered quickly.
“Sure, um…” Skelita seemed even more thoughtful than before.
“Is there anything else you want to say?” she asked gently, standing in front of her.
“No, of course not,” she said, finally overcoming her shyness and leaning in to give her a soft kiss on the cheek, hoping the situation wouldn’t become any more awkward.
The dragon felt a warm surge in her chest as she did so. And although it was just a simple, innocent kiss on the cheek, it brightened her night. It was something the faint smile that appeared on her face couldn’t hide.
“I love you, Jin,” she said, smiling sweetly.
“I love you more, my love.”
Chapter 2: Something
Summary:
This time, Jinafire and Skelita finally muster up enough courage and kiss on the lips. Perhaps a little too enthusiastically.
Okay, tomorrow is Día de los Muertos and I'm Mexican, so I didn't have much time to do this, LMAO
Notes:
I stayed up late trying to get enough inspiration. I hope this turns out well.

Chapter Text
A few days had passed. Maybe two or three. But Skelita was too disoriented to notice how time was going by.
Of course, she could focus on various things, like school or something like that. But lately, her mind seemed to be obsessed with reminding her that she had almost kissed the green-eyed dragon.
Besides, the famous "Día de los Muertos" was approaching. She had to start setting up her altar for her deceased acquaintances (in the case of her family, that didn't apply, since they were all skeletons and couldn't die).
Aside from thinking about everything she would do to her girlfriend if she saw her, she was also starting to get stressed about a few things. So much so that she had even forgotten to spend time with her. She had too many things on her mind: exams, designs, art, family... and many other things that she remembered but quickly faded into the background.
During class, Jinafire noticed that her sweet and tender partner seemed very confused. She also didn't seem to have slept, even though she couldn't have dark circles under her eyes.
"Hey, Lita" she called her by an affectionate nickname, "is everything alright, love? You don't seem quite right."
"Of course I am, beautiful, everything is perfectly fine." even though she seemed a little irritated (and she was), she tried not to say anything hostile to the ghoul she loved so much.
"Remember that I'll always be here if you need to talk" she said, giving her a few pats on the back. "Okay?"
"Yes, amor" she replied more calmly. "I think I have to go. I'll see you later." She took her hand and kissed it before leaving.
However, Jinafire was left with a certain worry since Skelita usually paid close attention to her words and looked at her closely, something she didn't do on this occasion.
...
Recess.
Skelita wanted to be alone, and Jinafire agreed, offering her support. The two of them sat down at a table.
"Sweetheart, are you sure nothing's wrong?" she said, putting an arm around her shoulders.
"Of course, mi vida. Everything's alright" she reassured her, though not convincingly.
"I love you so much." She kissed her near the cheek, which seemed to soothe her. But only she knew what would truly bring her peace.
"Me too, my queen." she leaned closer affectionately, "but I think it's something you already know very well."
...
In the workshop.
This time, Skelita's concentration flowed too quickly. It had helped that she'd been mentally visualizing that design all day.
"Beautiful, are you sure everything's alright? You look a little stressed" she asked again, concerned.
"Yes, Jin, everything's fine" the skeleton seemed to get annoyed every time the dragon asked about her mood.
"I know you're not" she confronted her, grabbing her shoulders and giving her an annoyed look. "Just tell me, you don't have to hide anything..."
"NOTHING'S WRONG!" she finally exploded. "I'm fine, Jinafire! Why don't you understand?!"
The Chinese dragon just pressed her lips together in anguish. Her beloved was never this upset, but she realized that when she was, she was much more frightening than her angry self.
"A la chingada todo!" "Todos se pueden ir a la verga!" the shorter ghoul started cursing in Spanish as she stormed off, not finishing her work. Two things she never did before.
...
"Wow, wait, are you telling me she got mad at you... when you asked her how she was feeling?" Clawdeen seemed very surprised by that. "No offense, but it's something I'd expect more from you, not from her."
"That's right... she barely slept last night, and I think I insisted a lot that she tell me how she'd been feeling."
"Well, considering it's exam week, and I think it's also Día de los Muertos in Hexico... she's just stressed." Lagoona tried to comfort her friend. "And apparently quite stressed... I didn't think she could be that aggressive, much less with you."
"So what can I do?" The green-haired ghoul put her hands to her cheeks, feeling defeated. "She's really mad at me... and at everyone."
"Just talk to her nicely, tell her you felt bad about how she answered you, but also tell her she has your full support, and listen to her."
"Oh... thank you, Lagoona. Your advices are very good." Jinafire bowed her head respectfully.
"You're welcome, friend. You can do it!" she added, offering more words of encouragement.
...
"So... you just got mad at her when she asked you for the third time if you were okay and yelled at her because you were stressed?" Skelita's friend, Marisol (a Spanish speaker like her) looked incredibly worried.
"I... maybe I did..."
Her other friend, Batsy, slapped her hard, making her wince in pain.
"Ow! That doesn't help, ghoul!" she rubbed her stinging cheek, angry, but not as much as before.
"Well, I don't care." The jungle vampire frowned. "That's not right! You have a beautiful woman who, by the way, is your girlfriend, showing you affection and worrying about you, and you do this to her!"
"Okay, Batsy, this isn't the solution." She glared at her. "We just want you to realize that maybe you made her feel bad with how you spoke to her." She stroked her hair.
"So what am I going to do?" This time she seemed sad. "She might be angry with me for what I did..."
"Okay, you just have to go, make sure she's alright, and then apologize. It's not that hard."
"Thanks, my friends." she said, sounding calmer and happier.
"And while you're at it, give her a little kiss." Marisol and Batsy started laughing, while Skelita looked embarrassed.
...
In their room.
Skelita opened the door quietly. The day had been brutal, and she was even more tired than before. But first, she had to apologize to Jinafire. The way she'd reacted a few hours earlier had been awful.
After she entered, her gaze met Jinafire's, but she quickly looked away, trying to memorize the right words to make things go back to normal.
After taking a breath, they started talking quickly and simultaneously, which only increased the awkwardness.
"Y-you speak first" the green-eyed dragon stammered, ready to hear everything.
"Well, um... p-please forgive me, my love. I was very wrong how I reacted earlier, and... I understand if you're angry with me now."
She lowered her gaze, but Jinafire took her jaw and lifted her eyes, meeting her beautiful, bright jade-colored eyes. She could lose herself in them for hours and never get bored.
Finally, they grew tired of waiting, and their lips touched each others. Not a quick kiss, but a deep, real one. Well, they tried to keep up, since, as mentioned, they had never kissed before. They began to relax, and the kiss intensified as Skelita began to release all her sorrows and stress while holding her so close.
She wrapped her arms around her waist, caressing her as she savored this unusual experience for both of them. Jinafire, in turn, placed her hands on her lover's cheeks, not letting her pull away.
"I love you... mmm~" whispered the shorter one between kisses, sighing softly.
As that kiss began to grow even more passionate, Jinafire pulled away, breathless. Skelita's eyes seemed to say, "Why are you doing this to me now?" but she needed to breathe too.
She kissed her forehead to make up for it. And that made her day happier. The skeleton began to chuckle softly, burying her face in her girlfriend's neck, embarrassed.
"Silly..." Skelita felt like she needed to merge with her or something. She had the best ghoul in the world by her side and never intended to let her go. "You still don't know how much I love you and how special you are to me."
"Of course I know, my love. The feelings are mutual."
"So, is that a yes?" she asked, trying to process what had just happened. "And if not, I'm sorry for getting so angry. I think I was just stressed and..."
"Shh," she hushed her gently. "You don't have to explain, darling." Yes, you made me feel sad, but that doesn't matter anymore, so I forgive you. I love you just the way you are."
"Me too." They hugged a few times before sharing a softer, more sincere kiss.

Chapter 3: Every breath you take
Summary:
Skelita discovers a talent she never knew she had. And Jinafire couldn't be happier for her.
Notes:
Drummers are very underrated in the music world, I think that's another reason why I want to learn to play the drums.

Chapter Text
It was Friday afternoon. Classes had just finished, and a collective sigh of relief filled the air when the bell rang.
Skelita walked out holding Jinafire's hand, as she almost always did. Other people might find it incredibly boring to be glued to your partner all the time, but neither of them seemed to mind. After all, you can never get bored of what you love, right?
"Darling, I have something important to do" the Chinese ghoul said, wanting to do something alone this time, and Skelita, of course, understood. "I'll wait for you in the school garden. See you later."
"Goodbye, Jin" she replied, giving her a gentle pat before kissing her cheek. But her girlfriend pulled her close, their bodies pressed together, and stole a kiss right on her lips.
Jinafire found it incredibly endearing when Skelita started to get nervous or shy during this kind of closeness.
After she left, the short ghoul simply began wandering down the hallway until something caught her attention.
In the distance, she could hear some noise, probably coming from a large room. But she couldn't quite make out what it was, so she slowly approached the source of the sounds.
Then she heard it. A melodious electric guitar chord, followed by a strong female voice, and then a bass line. Yes, it was music. But they weren't in sync.
"We're supposed to start at the same time" someone complained.
"How are we supposed to do that if there's no drummer?" asked the girl who was singing, sounding annoyed.
Skelita peeked out for a moment. And sure enough, there they were: Venus, Twyla, and Toralei (surprisingly, the latter could coexist without causing any problems or trying to impose her will).
They were in the art room, which had been empty for the past few weeks, so several students went there to do things while it was empty.
"Hi, Skelita" they greeted in unison.
"Hi, ghouls" she said calmly. "What are you doing?"
"Well, we were planning to form a band" Venus said, turning off the microphone. "Would you like to join? We need someone to play drums, but there are hardly any drummers at this school."
"Actually, no, thanks" she replied politely. "I don't know how to play any instruments."
"That's okay, we'll be here if you change your mind" Toralei said, and then she started playing the solo from "November Rain" trying to show off her guitar skills.
Skelita left, surely Jinafire was waiting for her somewhere else. However, she still had her friends' proposal on her mind.
She had always felt she had no talent for music; she couldn't sing well at all, she knew nothing about sheet music, chords... much less rhythm. But even so, that open opportunity lingered in her mind.
...
And what were the two ghouls doing in the school garden? Exactly, having a romantic moment. There were many couples there, so the atmosphere was a little different, but still lovely.
"Why did you take so long?" Jinafire asked, not getting angry.
"Oh... nothing, I think I just got distracted by something" she decided, choosing not to elaborate, enjoying the moment with the ghoul who made her head over heels in love.
"Sweetheart, can I ask you something?" he playfully fidgeted with her hands.
"What's up, Jin?"
"Does this... count as a date?" The question took her by surprise, but she didn't hesitate to answer.
"I-I guess so" she said, giving her a hug and resting her head on her shoulder in a loving gesture.
Honestly, sometimes she felt she didn't deserve her amazing girlfriend. She was perfect in every way, and sometimes she regretted that not everyone realized it.
Just as she was about to forget all about it, her friends walked past her, carrying their instruments. They were chatting and laughing together; being in a band really seemed like a lot of fun.
...
In the workshop.
Two of the fashionista ghouls were freely designing and embroidering, enjoying the tranquility of the day.
"My love, can you help me with something?" Jinafire asked, noticing her idleness.
"Of course, lovely" Jinafire replied, looking closer. She seemed a little embarrassed, her cheeks flushed. "Is everything alright?"
"Y-yes, it's just that, uhh... my dress ripped and... I need your help" Jinafire swallowed, growing increasingly embarrassed.
"Okay, where did it rip?" Jinafire moved closer, standing inches from Jinafire's body.
Jinafire turned around, revealing part of her back and the back of her bra, the area where her dress had ripped. Skelita blushed intensely at the glimpse of skin, and even more so because she really liked what she saw.
"Okay, um... I can fix it," the skeleton could barely speak. She wanted to look away, but it was difficult.
After grabbing some thread the same color as the garment and a needle, she got to work, analyzing what she was doing.
If she thought about it, sewing required a pattern of repetitive movements, as well as coordination and speed. Just like the skills a musician needed. Perhaps, if she put in the effort to learn, she could be in that band soon...
Before she knew it, she had finished and was just caressing the newly fixed area. She realized this because of her girlfriend's rapid, heavy breathing, which indicated that she was making her nervous.
"I'm done, Jin."
Instead of pulling away, Skelita wrapped her bony arms around her lower waist.
"You're really pretty, you know?..." she whispered close to her ear, in a tone somewhat... different from how she usually spoke.
"Hey, I saw that!" Clawdeen appeared out of nowhere beside her, and they immediately separated.
"Clawdeen! Why did you just appear out of nowhere?" Skelita reacted, somewhat annoyed.
"Sorry, I forgot something here. I didn't think it was a bad time," she shrugged, smiling sarcastically.
"Okay, could you leave now, please?" Jinafire snapped.
"Alright, I get it. Bye." She grabbed her things and turned to look at them before leaving. "Just don't break the table..."
"Just go the fuck out!" The dragon turned bright red and the werewolf left, laughing to herself.
"Hey, my love, I have to go do something important," Skelita said, stroking her hair. "I'll see you later." She took a couple of steps forward.
"Yeah, sure..." she replied, sounding like she'd meant to do something else.
Before she could start walking away, the skeleton returned and this time took the initiative, stealing a quick, deep kiss. After she finally left, Jinafire sighed, her heart racing all of the sudden.
...
The following week, the brown-eyed ghoul didn't hesitate to go to the art room, hoping it was still empty and that the opportunity was still there.
When she arrived, the three ghouls mentioned earlier were about to put away their instruments, but they stopped what they were doing when they saw her come in.
"Hi Skelita" Venus greeted her again in a friendly manner. "What's up?"
"Um, well, I don't know how to express myself properly, but... I just wanted to know if you're still looking for a drummer" she said, a slight blush creeping across her face, hoping they wouldn't flatly refuse.
"Oh, right" the carnivorous plant smiled wider, understanding. "But... I thought you told us you didn't play any instruments?"
Just as she was about to explain, Toralei interrupted her with a knowing but mocking smile.
"Come on, girl, you told us you don't know how to play. Talent isn't something you just have, it's something you acquire" she said with a sarcastic laugh. "So I'm sorry, but..."
"Shh" Venus shushed her. "Look, you annoying kitty, she may not know how to play, but at least she has something."
"What?" she asked, her cat ears drooping.
"Willingness. She's the only candidate we have."
"Hmm... I'm sorry, but what does that mean?" Twyla spoke softly.
"It means... you're officially in." she patted Skelita on the shoulder, who began to smile.
"B-but... she probably doesn't know anything about music!" Toralei still couldn't believe it.
"Well, she's going to learn." She crossed her arms, smiling.
...
Skelita finally felt she did have a real talent for music. She may never have known anything about music theory, but she was learning incredibly fast.
Sometimes she got so distracted that she was often late for her workshop or dates with her girlfriend. And it had been happening frequently for the past two weeks.
"Hey, honey! Sorry I'm late again, I've been a bit busy..."
"You've been taking a long time recently..." She frowned slightly, not out of anger, but out of insecurity.
"Are you... upset?" Her smile shifted to a sad expression.
"Of course not!" She immediately tried to smooth things over. "It's just... I wanted to know what you've been up to." Her perfectly shaped eyebrows curled, a growing insecurity rising in her chest.
"Oh, it's nothing important..." she smiled innocently, but she didn't return the gesture. "There's no one else in my heart but you. And there never will be. You're the only one I want right now."
In response, she smiled warmly as her dragon tail swayed slightly with happiness. She leaned in closer to kiss her softly and tenderly; ever since they first kissed, they couldn't help but do it all the time.
"Awww" Marisol was hiding behind a bush, melting with tenderness at the sight.
"They're so cheesy it's disgusting" Batsy simply grinned.
...
"What do I have to do now?" Skelita sat behind the drum kit, holding a drumstick in each hand, while Venus patiently explained a few things to her.
She hadn't been wrong to choose this other occupation. She never thought something like this could be so much fun.
"Since I see you already understand some things well, now you have to do the same thing, but while we play at the same time."
"Really?" Her expression turned more serious.
"Don't worry, it's not that difficult. If you make a mistake, it's okay."
"Okay..." She took a couple of deep breaths.
...
"Is everything ready?" Venus asked, taking a sip of water to clear her throat. "We'll have a new member joining us today."
At that moment, the door opened and Catrine entered, holding a guitar.
"Bonsoir, les filles" she said kindly.
"Hi, Cat" Skelita greeted her. "I didn't know you played an instrument too."
"Well, I wanted to try something new, and here I am," she said with a gentle giggle.

At first, Skelita took a little while to adjust, but everything went well, and they played a song together for the first time.
"That... was... amazing!" Toralei exclaimed, thrilled with how well the experience had gone. "We have to do it again!"
...
A few more weeks passed. Jinafire often got a little frustrated because her girlfriend was taking so long to arrive for their dates. And one day, she'd had enough of waiting.
She left where she was and went to look for her. She had to find out why she was taking so long.
The school was almost empty, with only a few students walking around. Among those few people, she couldn't see her. And then she heard something.
A tapping sound came from the art room. But it wasn't just tapping; it was a rhythmic, steady drumming.
And when she saw it, she couldn't believe it. There was her love, her adorable girlfriend, showing off some drumming skills. And she was doing it like she'd been practicing her whole life.
She smiled softly at that. She was simply absorbed in her art, nothing more. There was nothing to worry about.
When Skelita finished playing a song, she turned around, and the dragon was suddenly standing in front of her.
"J-Jinafire! W-what are you doing here?"
Before she could explain, she hugged her tightly, not letting go.
"Oh, you silly" she said, stroking her back. "All this time, I was worried I wasn't good enough for you, and now I realize it!"
Skelita relaxed when she heard how happy she was.
"I thought I made that clear" she said, kissing her forehead. "There's no one else for me. I love you just the way you are. To me, you're already more than perfect."
"You're the most beautiful woman in the world" she blushed at the sincerity of her words. "Now... can I see you play again?"
"Hmm, let me think about it... no" she shook her head with a smile.
"Why not? Come on, please" she pleaded.
"I just want to give you a surprise" she said, pressing a kiss to her soft, sweet lips.
...
"Alright, welcome to this talent show" Mr. Where announced over the auditorium's PA system. "I hope you're ready for some adrenaline tonight. Now, let's welcome the band Ethereal Disgrace!"
Everyone immediately began to applaud. After a few seconds, a guitar riff rang out, followed by the drums and then the rest of the instruments.

The performance was AMAZING. Everyone rose from their seats to applaud.
When they left the stage, Robecca caught up with Venus and gave her a loving kiss.
"That was the best thing I've ever seen, V! You were incredibly brilliant!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around Venus's shoulders. It's worth noting that this was the first time the automaton had ever seen a band perform live, and it was even more exciting when the ghoul she loved was on stage.
Toralei and Twyla left together, and they already knew why: to see Clawdeen and Howleen.
The skeleton was also quickly greeted with a kiss.
"You can never disappoint me" she said, cupping Skelita's cheeks. "You're so talented."
