"I had never conceived of myself in the mode of beauty. Power, yes, and certainly fearlessness, but never beauty. To see the elements of my unnatural being reflected in one whom I had always desired was an unexpected and thrilling sensation. Though he looked upon me with a revulsion that had only grown since my conception, I could not help but feel the stirrings of feelings I had hitherto barred myself from considering. I knew I had the right to companionship, even to love, but the carnal nature of my own body was a realm I had left unexamined, terrified of what horrors such an exploration might uncover.
