This fic was inspired by gandalf.thegay and the incredible zephyyrxs on Instagram. I owe them all the credit for the ideas and incredible art that helped me write this fic. Also, yes, I used an EPIC song for the title.
The year is somewhere around 1710, in the midst of the "Golden Age of Piracy" as it would later be known to historians. Once a wealthy merchant family, the Emeritus siblings devised a plan to conquer the waters - they had the funds, the family support, and the crew - what could possibly go wrong? Mutiny, sea monsters, family betrayal, and death are hot on their tails as the story focuses on Terzo, the third Emeritus brother, who is sailing around the coast of Italy and deals with his swashbuckling family.

Mr. Shepherd placed a big hand against the back of his neck and softly lead him into the living room. Vittorello tried on a small smile. On the couch sat a tall woman. She had light brown hair, twisted tightly away from her face. She didn’t look excited. Her thin lips were pursed, and she looked at him like he was a dirty dog, staining her carpet.
He was not staining her carpet.
“Ruth, Grace, meet the newest part of our family.”
Silence settled over the room, and it took Vittorello a few seconds too long to figure out that they wanted him to introduce himself. “I-I’m … I’m-“ the words locked themselves in his throat, twisting into sharp fear. “It’s alright, child, take your time.” He looked to his feet. Trying to force the words from his throat. “I’m… V—vitto—Vittorello … Vittorello Copia. It—it’s nice to—to meet you.”
Vittorello Copia. Copia.
That’s what his mother had left him.
Copia.
“Well, that’ll be Vittorello Shepherd from now. I’m David, but I want you to call me dad.” He nodded. He didn’t want it. He wasn’t Shepherd. He had a name. He didn’t need a new one. He didn’t want a new one.

As the pressure keeps increasing, he can keep trying to hide how much he's struggling, but eventually he won't be able to pretend everything is fine.
I will be including Swiss in this fic, but considering the recent allegations against Jutty Taylor at a Drag Talk concert earlier this year, I feel the need to explicitly that if the allegations are true I do not condone his actions in any way, this fic mentions the character he plays onstage and the character alone, and ALWAYS support victims.

Sister Imperator has spent the last few years begging for a ‘Cardinal Gemini’ to be transferred to the Rome, NY branch. He’s a mysterious Cardinal that Copia has never met in all of his time in the clergy. Copia is dreading meeting ‘the new guy’ that his mother went behind his back to transfer.
