Victor dipped his hand further in and closed his eyes, simply allowing himself to feel. But even in that pocket of silence, his ears strained and his thoughts spun. The Creature couldn’t be far. He lost track of who was hunting who anymore. Victor set out on this crusade to destroy the monstrosity he’d unleashed upon the world in a vain attempt at contrivance but it didn’t take long for the Creature to show him how lacking his mortal limitations were. All he had now was the fizzling ambers of his subdued rage and a mission to correct the wrong he’d put out into the world through his misbegotten pride. “

The Creature hummed a resonant note that collared Victor’s neck, his throat, compelling his head to turn. Faded from his hearing, it held him still, immobile, left him with no recourse but to watch the winged blades of his Creature’s shoulders flex beneath the linen clinging to the long taper of his back as he gathered bread studded with salt and rosemary, apples with skins that shone like pigeon blood rubies.
“Obscene,” Victor mouthed the word, denying it volume, for it was directed not at his Creature, but at his own inability to look away from him, as though Victor’s hands did not already have exquisite, intimate knowledge of the musculature now under the scope of his stare.

Some have even been attributed to the supernatural. Yet, though time has obscured the truth, a handful of events remain difficult to explain even today, and a disproportionate number of them seem to have occurred during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
I, a researcher in the early 2020s, began learning of some of these more unlikely and unusual happenings that are seldom found outside forgotten tomes and library archives quite by accident, and have taken it upon myself to piece together what happened, no matter how unlikely these events may seem...
I hope it will thrill you.
It may shock you.
It might even horrify you.
So if you feel you would not care to subject your nerves to such a strain, now is your chance to, eh… well, I warned you!
