Basically, I rewrote the American Revolution and made them gayer and sadder.

Thomas Jefferson was not an idiot. He knew when something was up, whether it was a facial expression that gave it away, or anything else.
A physical lack of Alexander Hamilton really ticked him off after a cabinet meeting ended in a loud explosion between the two, once again, arguing over Hamilton's financial plan.
Jefferson, sure, he may regret a word or two, but he wasn't worried that Hamilton was in a stupid situation, or at the very least, gone farther that outside the office to cool off after their shouting match
And suddenly, he's just straight gone that evening. And now he doesn't know what to do.
Or,
Hamilton gets captured, and Jefferson has thoughts and feelings about it that make him question his feelings towards the Treasury Secretary and his political enemy.
