Todd, to his great displeasure, found himself rather empty as he watched his greatest enemy plummet to the bakehouse.
Revenge should've been his salvation; he'd been sure of it. A sudden end to his litany of woes, the final link between his old life and the new.
Instead, he'd gotten... nothing.
He lamented being so sudden. He had taunted him, yes, for a moment, but his bloodlust had gotten hold of him. His Friends so hungry for the kill, so eager to fulfill their purpose. He should've been crueler, he scolded himself, make him anguish for every second his Lucy suffered at his filthy hands.
And then, a scream. Mrs. Lovett, of course.
What a lucky sound.

She’s thought many times that he could kill her. It would be easy - small as he may be, he’s still taller than she is, and he’s clever and quick. He could kill her any way he liked and simply toss her into the oven in the bakehouse downstairs. Sweeney could roll over in the night and slit her throat while she slept, and she would be none the wiser. He could wrap his hands around her neck and squeeze the life from her. If he rose suddenly from the water and shoved her hard across the room, his naked body matted with dark, wet hair and his eyes flashing with a sudden swell of rage, she would return to him all the same, a bad habit she refuses to quit.

Summary
To everyone's shock, the prison riots worked. Phillip Turpin is arrested and Benjamin is free after over fifteen years of a false charge. He begins taking back his life, beginning with his daughter. However, the word "father" tastes like poison in Johanna's mouth after what her guardian did her to and a flighty girl always has her wings outstretched.
Or: Benjamin gets his daughter back, but he's used to being the parent of an infant. Not a traumatized teenager.

This is not really a Sweeney Todd fan fic - I did the bare minimum of research, beyond knowing the basic story and lifting the character names from the original 1846 story The String of Pearls. In that story, though, Lt. Thornhill survived, and I felt it was more logical that he would have been another of the Demon Barber's victims.
So, it occurred to me that the Demon Crowley and the Demon Barber of Fleet Street would have been around at the same time....

’Instinctively, Sweeney half-closes the tome against the finger he’s placed on the page to mark his place. He holds the front cover up for the boy to look at, and it takes a good handful of seconds for him to realise that Toby is still watching him blankly. Possibly, with a degree of sadness in his face — humiliation, shame. Wordlessly, he returns to his puzzle, but the keenness to finish it isn’t there anymore.’
